Scimitar Vette by Jepray Scimitar Vette by Jepray
AThese patrol ships are the most common warship in known space, being mass-produced by Kanamitsu-Sirius Aerospace for the militia and indie system military market. While not the most luxurious of vessels- using stacked bunks and stowable common amenities that make most light Freetraders look luxurious by comparison- it is still a potent combat vessel. At a cost of just a little under five million credits each, these vessels are an inexpensive way for indie systems to field mil-spec light warships, and generally cheaper than producing their own. Thus, of the tens of thousands of independent star systems out there, one in three will use Scimitar-class corvettes for their patrol and orbital defense ships. Even many smaller mercenary companies on a budget will use Scimitars for their escort and PSD vessels.
This widespread use of these vessels has one downside for the various indie militaries, however- enemies using the same ship know fairly well what their opponent is capable of. This has led to a booming market for after-market modification packages for everything from avionics to weapon systems, all of which create a diversity of variants by nation. Against most Freetraders and privateer vessels, these patrol ships represent a significant threat and are not to be trifled with. As they usually operate in squadrons, even taking down one or two with a lucky shot will only put you into the crosshairs of a half-dozen more.

This looks... awkward. I'm not opposed to a flying wing, but the way it bulks out at the ends, though I think it's meant to be the engines, it just looks weird.

Those are indeed engines hanging under the wings...
