Ha ha, awesome frigate!! I like that this ship is built kind of up to down rather than front to back, kind of like a shark fin or something. I've been getting interested in that kind of build lately. That ship as definitely got a lot of guns and interesting looking greebles. Hope more info comes soon, lol. *whip cracking*
I have never played Homeworld, and i am not familiar with their designs? So would care to Expand on your shouting that name across here? Do more then just drop some stupid one word reference pls... or keep it to yourself.
Its just that you are throwing out a game title, and what do you expect me to understand by just naming a game? What is the point in your throwing out the name of the game HOMEWORLD? Did you want me to Look it up? why? Is there something you want to show me? IS there something to compare it to in that game? Or maybe you think this would look good in Homeworld? Dude, give me more then just a title... its like less then nothing to go on...
The Mothership in Homeworld is shaped very similarly to the ship in question. The game itself has been described as being very formative in the design style of more than a few DA artists. The game, while not very deep in play style, was very ground breaking in that it was the first Real Time Strategy game. It was like playing a sci-fi novel. I'll see if I can't run up some links for you to follow. Btw, my original comment was meant as a complement.
[link] [link] Cruiser art [link] Story page, I can easily see it taking place in the game. [link] Mothership [link] Hiigaran detroyer, very nice pic looks like it was taken in game even though it wasn't. The artist seems dedicated to HW btw [link] You can get as close or as far away from ANY vessel in HW from Fighter to Mothership, just not this close... no cockpit shots... which would rock for HW3 - if it was ever made. I dare to correct the statement of Homeworld being the first Real Time Strategy game. That would've been Command&Conquer (the very first part), Homeworld was "merely" the game to put a third dimension into the battles and to really utilize it. Unlike others that pride themselves with a three-dimensional battlefield which then is more or often less a LoS-check against hills and a layer of air(crafts) above the ground battle.
I think of all your designs, I like this one the best. Not sure why, but that being said, I think I'm going to start my attempt at modeling her this weekend. I'll post some wips on my page so you can give input on anything I may have "out of whack" as I go..plus, since I have no reference for the aft view, I'll definitely need your comments on that as it progresses.
That's some very interesting design choices. Interesting as in "which stoned moron in R&D painted the plans" interesting. Some blind spots along the side and other turrets that look a bit like they were slapped on afterwards to cover these I mean: turrets hidden behind a giant stabilizer? When these turrets got a free LoS on the enemy the ship's definitely in trouble! It's great that your ships always seem to tell something about their design and give the feel of a living universe with hasty meetings discussing ways to reduce costs and other meetings trying to cover up the "totally vital cost reduction" flaws.
Bureaucracy is something the Sarza have distilled into a fine art of clusterf@#$ing themselves, part of what led to the civil war they had in the first place. As aliens go, they're the closest to Humans in their mindset and culture, but closer to Imperial Britain than anything else. And, as anyone who has ever studied that era of British history knows, they could complicate spreading butter
figure that their ships were doing fine fighting themselves... now they run into other races and the standards of warfare that they run by suddenly mean jack... paste on fixes till a new ship can clear the yard to meet a new threat...most likely even that will be sadly outdated due to slow moving effect red tape has
lots of fun detail here. like the inset cockpit like shape. consider blocking in some black backdrop to highlight the silhouette of the ship. id love to see some more dramatic lighting on it too. very cool design.
its a really fun design. very enjoyable to look at all that detail. the only thing i want more of is the shape outline, to be able to see it more, and to feel the 3d forms with some value shading that highlights forms. great stuff though.
