Description

Due to the age of the Cobra privateer vessels- which date back to the Capellan War over six decades ago in 2255- Rayline Industries released a newer upgraded model in 2316. Named the King Cobra, it has been significantly modified from the original model. Most notable is the extension of the main hull out between the forward booms. This extension moved the bridge forward, allowing for the addition of more luxurious crew quarters, an expanded infirmary, and a small brig for captured pirates. This improvement in accommodations is accompanied by an upgrade in the aging life support system, doubling the number of people the King Cobra can support.
Other significant changes have been a radical change in engine modules- upgrading to more efficient dual-core gravitic drives- and newer weapon systems. The addition of two more dual core engines increases the maneuverability and acceleration of the King Cobra significantly over the previous model, and newer, more compact jump engines allow for a primary and backup jump drive in half the space occupied by the older models. Due to the need of privateers to respond to a threat quickly, the older Class VI drives- while fast- have been replaced with Class VII drives, allowing for a jump speed of 140 C/hr. The backup drive has also been replaced with a Class V, giving the King Cobra substantial jump speed even on the emergency drive.
The most obvious upgrade has been in weapons. Four dual heavy PPCs with built-in point-defense turrets, two aft-mounted dual medium PPCs, and four quad light PPCs give a far greater level of coverage and firepower from the previous model. Four dual light AP Lancer and single light AP lancer turrets create a comprehensive shield of fire against smaller ships without draining the reactor bank overmuch. Sixteen pop-up point-defense turrets spread throughout the vessel give excellent anti-missile and anti-fighter defensive cover.
Forward firepower was likewise improved. Two double-stacked heavy AP lancer spinals along the inner boom are now backed up with two heavy PPC spinals, and two disruptor spinals for disabling target vessels' electronics and shields. sixteen LRM launchers add in intermediate firepower and offensive capacity against small craft and fighters. Next-generation deployable tachyon-radiation-dispersing ailerons on either engine nacelle increase the cool-down and turnaround time, allowing the King Cobra longer durations of hyperspace travel.

I think you do a really good job in ships that appeal to both those that want to blast their enemies to atoms in space combat, and those that want a sort of Firefly-esque flying house ship, at the same time.

I'm curious though, how maneuverable are these privateers and raiders and such that you've been showing us? Do they essentially dogfight with each other?
