Sunfish-Class Colonial Transport
The Sunfish is a commonly-seen multipurpose transport vessel found throughout outer Colonial and much of Fringe space. While classed as a Freetrader due to the armaments she carries, the Sunfish is used as everything from a troop transport to a commercial passenger liner. It is, as one aerospace historian phrased it, the C-130 or ST-443 of the 24th century. The Sunfish is laid out on an asymmetrical hull design, with a longer beam than keel. This design classes her as a Medium starship rather than Light due to the length of the beam, despite the keel length being within Light parameters. T’would appear bulk matters more than linear bow-to-stern measurements in the eyes of the licensing bureaus of the Alliance. With an impressive fifty-two MILLION cubic feet of cargo space and bunkroom and cabin quarters for up to 108 passengers (220 if they are very friendly), the Sunfish can transport a colonial advance settlement team- complete with hab modules and equipment-, a company of mercenaries or Indie system soldiers with armor and walker support, passengers travelling the dangerous spacelanes of the Fringe, or scientific research or archaeological teams doing digs in hostile regions of space. Six-to-eight meter thick turine ablative/deflector hybrid armor plating, eight dual medium PPC turrets and thirty-six CMCF-40 Vulcan point defense turrets dramatically improve their odds of getting there. An unusal, yet elegant and capable vessel befitting the territories in which it flies.
