Deviousness |
ALL planes are held together with rivets. In actuality those rivet lines should be a zig zag pattern of two rows of rivets so the joint can't flex.
Aluminium is not welded. It will ruin the temper of the metal and make it weaker.
In fact, as mechanics, we are not even allowed corded power tools when we work on the plane. Everything is pneumatic air tools. The idea is to not induce magnetic fields in the airframe that will interfere with the compass. You barely need a compass these days, but the rule is still in effect. Besides, all of the tools built for aviation were/still are pneumatic, so we use them.
Still, to take a plane apart to almost nothing all you really need is a 3/8ths socket and a #1 Phillips screwdriver.
