Arbalest AMW-067 by Jepray Arbalest AMW-067 by Jepray
The NAU's AMW-067 "Arbalest" is a study on how not to make a Battlewalker... A mech made by committee, the design was plagued by too many goals, and made by the lowest bidder. A multi-role machine, it was meant to handle everything it came up against on the battlefield. What they got was a mech that did everything, and it did everything horribly...
It is Very heavily armored, and as a result, marks poorly for maneuverability, due in part by the large foot print needed to keep it above ground and not digging a hole in it...
A two place cockpit, one gunner and one pilot are safely mounted in the middle of the hull. This is both its best and worse feature, with no windows or canopy, the crew is dependent on the multiple sensors spread across the hull. It was found to be rather weak against EMP hits. But this vault like design meant that the crew kept ticking long after the mech died. There is still no secondary/backup viewing system made, as the threat of EMP weapons has been down played by the suits in the committee...
Under engined... the power generation unit is too weak to handle prolonged exchanges with its primary energy weapons. AMW of course hid this problem by dumping there largest Gatling gun as a secondary weapon system, along with its giant missile racks.
The first units to hit the field became an instant headache to the support crew and related ammunition insanity. 3 different caliber bullets, mortar shells and two different missile types made rearming this thing in the field a test in logic...
its flat sided hull was found to be prone to missile locks, and a quick patch was added to fix the problem, the Phalanx pod was mounted to the upper hull to shoot down incoming missiles...
The Arbalest was considered obsolete when if first rolled off the assembly line, but close ties with field units and the manufacture proved helpful in at least fixing some fatal problems that came about, and has helped this obsolete design at least compete with its closes rival...

Uhhhh.....Yeah.... I'm sorry, but this mech doesn't deserve the title of Arbalest. (I'm a Fullmetal panic fan, bite me lol) but as for the drawing design it's good. It gives you an idea what they were thinking and still shake your head. This unit's role feels like that of light support for infantrymen. Hoping that the enemy doesn't have EMP rockets....

Probably not, hell, anything on two legs, weighs 100 tons, and got guns all over the damn place, would make me nervous quick if I was a foot soldier!

It's a solid design but I see like eighty places where I could have fitted more guns.

bah, machine guns are old tech... PPC's and APPC are it, energy weapons means no need for reloads...and i didn't want to spaz on the weapons...its fine like it is... and its more like a hundred places for more guns...i could stick them all up and down the legs too...

Yes I did and I was not Impressed... Enough. Here's an idea why don't you make a giant trurret robot made out of smaller turrets. Then I will be sufficiently impressed. I think there is a cetin mental advantage to over kill. With a giant robot shooting lazers, yes you have a significant weapon, but if you cover it in superfluous weapons and have them all firing at once your enemys will just lay down and die.
