Ahruga (“an Athrugadh” in their native tongue) are a race of genetically-engineered warrior-poets who descend from Gaelic settlers of human origins. They exiled themselves from humanity at the beginning of the 22nd Century, and made contact again during the Capellan War in 2258. They are boisterous, aggressive, yet also charming in a devil-may-care live-life-to-the-fullest manner. Due to their genetic engineering, the hard and fibrous connective tissues of the Ahrugan body (i.e. bone, tendon, muscle, skin, etc.) are fifty times denser at a molecular level than those of a normal Human. This lends them great strength and endurance, among other effects, and- along with semi-feral traits- makes them utterly deadly combatants in close-quarters. To put this unmatched ferocious capability to use, however, they must close with enemies armed with powerful long-range weapons. Thus, the Ahruga developed the toughest armour of the Alliance.
The lightest body armor worn by Ahrugan laochra, the Lúirech- named for a coat of maille worn by their ancestors- is tougher than conventional HBAs. The enhanced strength of the Ahruga allows for far thicker and denser armor plating without the need for the usual under-armor myomer suit. Despite weighing over a quarter ton, the Lúirech feels like a mere 15 lbs of weight to the Ahruga. As a result, the plating of the Lúirech is as thick as fighter- and even some battlewalker- armor. As with all Ahrugan armor, the Lúirech has top-of-the-line ECM/ECCM, as well as a built-in shield generator that can be set for an omnidirectional bubble, or focused on one arm or the other like an ablative shield, doubling the refresh rate. Both gauntlets contain retractable vibroclaws and dual retractable forearm vibroblades are built into the bracers to enhance the Ahrugan potency in close-quarters combat. Though unlikely to be of interest due to its weight and incompatibility with under-armor suits- not to mention the lethality and persistence with which the Ahruga hunt down those who steal off of their dead- the Lúirech is illegal to any but the Ahruga, and worth 1.5 million cr on the black market.
Components- ECM Suite (IFF system, displacement field, active personal signature dampeners, comm and sensor jammers), Cloaking Field Generator, Synchronized Alpha Wave Emitter, Multi-Optics, Deflector Shield Generator, 180 hour life support
i hate to be the one to point this out, but that looks a heckuva lot like an armor set from TOO HUMAN (Legacy of the Fallen Kings, specifically...) with a helmet... which i guess might be good as a jumping-off point, but...
its loosely based off of it, yes, but it matches the description of Ahrugan armour in the first novel I wrote, which predates Too Human by about a decade and a half.
...i still have concerns... i don't see how one can be that specific in text with regards to tailoring.. ANYWAY i did make a doodle -well, it STARTED as a doodle- of a couple of personages i intended to be Ahrugans in their light armor, with a design that differs slightly wider from the aforementioned resemblance, if it's all right to post?
if you're worried about copyright issues, don't be, there is far more than the 20% difference required by law between the armor from Too Human and the version that went into the manual. As for the doodle, so long as you give credit that's fine
Oh, and didn't want to forget this- "They stepped off of the transport tube into another hallway, this one much more stark and utilitarian in design. The plant-alcoves remained, as did the carpet, but gone were the beautiful murals and paintings. Liam led them down the hallway into a round room with padded couches and an auto-chef, seeming to be a break room of some type. Opposite the entrance they had come through was another door, this one built like a vault door and flanked by two Ahrugan warriors in dark forest green armor chased with raised embossed designs in gold of zoomorphics and spirals. The shoulder cops of their pauldrons had the emblem of the ATC Defense Forces- a vertical sword flanked by upswept wings who’s tips met the tip of the sword- carved into them with as much artistry and care as the knotwork wolves and other creatures that followed the curves and lines of the armor. Aya noted the difference in the design- far more artistic than any of the utilitarian battle-armor she had seen prior- did not detract from the thickness or effectiveness of the armor. The pulse rifles in their thigh cradles were the same deadly models she had seen at work forty-eight hours earlier."
I just posted that version of the armour to my gallery
It was somewhat the copyright issue i was concerned about, though I was going to say that maybe it's okay ala Battletech, i.e. the slew of slightly modified Mobile Suits, Veritechs, Gerwalks, and various other anime strays...
But mostly, it was sort of jarring, given that i like jepray's ship drawings, and random robots, so much (altough the turrets!). I thought i recalled something about you looking for more people (and being vaguely interested) to work on the game, but if it was there ican't find it.. but among other things, a larger pool of people would allow you to delegate, or hand off something one person has done as a concept to refine it into a finished idea... I know what i mean, not sure if i get it across...
I must say, that snippet of text makes me see something FAR more comeplicated than either jepray or my doodle (done before reading your response) show. And no coats involved...
I was asking permission because a few people, like shimmering-sword for his CONTACT work, always put "no derivative works, please" and i wasn't sure... [link]
Derivative works are fine provided credit is given for the original, and its not used for commercial purposes (legal stuff from our boss, you know how it goes). As for the copyright issue, Jeff was using it as a base, but got a little too close to the original. So, it was further modified to make sure it was away from the Too Human inspiration to quell any copyright issues. Ahrugan battle armor actually looks very similar to Mjolnir Mk VI armour, but with the helmet shown above. However, players expect Ahrugan gear to be a bit... well, embellished, and playtesters were consistently disappointed with the "plain-Jane" description. Hence the birth of this type of armour
As for the dress-form of the armour, you did a beautiful job capturing it in your sketch. That would make for an awesome wallpaper when rendered out fully
if by "rendered out fully" you mean "inked and colored" that could be a while. since my digital color skills are.. basic.. i would have to print it out, ink it with some liners, and scan it, and color with markers... multi-tiered process. plus, i'm in the middle of packing right now.
also, i'm kind of having the loopy idea of modeling it in C4D... and i'm kinda, inexperienced at that..
ANYWAY
